Topics to be Covered:

1. Structure of the atom including shells and orbitals.
2. Basic structure including the A,, Z, and N numbers which define the number of protons and electrons in an atom, the atomic number, the atomic mass, the number of neutrons, and the number of nucleons.
3. The chart of the nuclides and the periodic table of the elements
4. Isotopes, isotones, isobars, and isomers
5. Description of all of the particles representing the building blocks of matter as well as all other particles and photons emitted as a result of radioactive decay
6. Practice problems and questions related to basic atomic structure 

After completion of this tutorial, one should be able to

1. To be able to sketch an atom and indicate the location of the nucleus, the shells, and the electronic orbitals
2. To be able to calculate the maximum number of electrons that can occupy a specific shell
3. To identify the symbols for atomic number, atomic mass, and number of neutrons in an atom
4. To explain the difference between the Periodic Table of the Elements and the Chart of the Nuclides
5. To explain the difference between isotopes, isotones, isobars, and isomers and give examples of each.
6. To explain the difference between protons, neutrons, electrons, alpha particles, beta-minus particles, beta-plus particles, X-rays and gamma rays and write the symbols for each.

It’s not necessary to send us the score sheets since we receive them electronically when you submit your answers for scoring.

Within 24 hours of receipt of your submitted score sheets and payment for the tutorial(s), we will do all of the following:

1. Send a certificate to you via e-mail
2. Send a certificate to you via US Mail
3. All members of the SNMMI will have to self-report their CE Credits on the SNMMI Website (www.snmmi.org). We will automatically send detailed self-reporting instructions to you along with your CE Credit Certificate.
